2011 FLEURIE, Château des Jacques. Beaujolais (Magnum)
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Size of bottle: 150cl
Area: Beaujolais, of course, makes generally light and fruity reds but Fleurie, despite its name, is often one of the more powerful styles. There is certainly nothing simple about this mature example.
Grape Variety: 100% Gamay, de-stemmed (so not fermented in whole bunches - carbonic maceration - as most other Beaujolais) and matured in (old) oak barrels for 10 months.
Producer: Louis Jadot is a large négociant (merchant) but one you can rely on for quality and, by Burgundy standards, good value.
Old Bridge Rating: Great to taste mature Gamay - and relatively rare. Gentle, but spicy and a hint of Pinot complexity.
