2018 TOURAINE GAMAY, Xavier Frissant. Loire, France
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Size of bottle: 75cl
Area: Xavier Frissant has 22 hectares just south of the Loire river, east of the beautiful town of Amboise. The overall region is Touraine, or Touraine-Amboise, but Amboise may have its own appellation in future. As well as Gamay and Sauvignon he works with local varieties Fié Gris and Cot (Malbec).
Grape Variety: Hand-picked Gamay, 10 day fermentation in whole bunches (carbonic maceration), bottled young to retain freshness.
Cellar Potential: Drink within 3 years of harvest.
Food Match: Drink at lunchtime - or if in the evening then ideally outside - with whatever takes your fancy.
Old Bridge Rating: Beaujolais style - the grape and the winemaking - but the added freshness and zip you get from the northerly location of the Loire. MUST be served cool for maximum enjoyment!
Press Reviews: “Xavier Frissant is one of the best winemakers of the Loire and his viticultural work is as good as one could wish for across his different terroirs.” Bettane & Desseauve 2017
