2017 VENTOUX, Dom. de Fondrèche. Rhône, FranceOrganic
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Size of bottle: 75cl
Area: Ventoux - known as Côtes du Ventoux until 2008 - is a fairly big, sprawling wine region due east of the more famous southern Rhône appellations, and just north of Luberon. 80% of the production is red (generally mid-weight, very similar to a 'normal' Côtes du Rhône). Whites vary enormously but more ambitious examples (like this) can be quite rich in style.
Grape Variety: Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette and Rolle (Vermentino); matured on the lees for 6 months but no oak barrels used.
Producer: Sébastien Vincent has owned the estate since 1993 and it now totals 38 hectares, all of it organic or biodynamic. Most vineyards are next to the domaine, on limestone/clay soils, but the white varieties are grown on sand/clay.
Old Bridge Rating: One of the lighter wines in our 'full-bodied' section, but none the worse for that. Lovely balance of richness and delicacy.
