2016 CHABLIS, Gilbert Picq et ses Fils. Burgundy, France
Alcohol Percentage: 12.5%
Area: Chablis is a cool, northern area. Despite commercial popularity the wines are not 'easy'. Initially they seem light and innocuous, with searing, razor-sharp acidity. Give them air, and allow the palate a minute to adjust, for the subtle intensity and complexity to become evident.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay, fermented and matured in stainless steel.
Producer: The Picq domaine is based in the hamlet of Chichée, just 3km south of Chablis. The domaine has been established in the region for several generations, with Didier Picq now in charge of wine-making, while his brother Pascal looks after the vineyards. Daughter Marilyn looks after the commercial side in the office.
