2021 SHIRAZ ‘No Added Preservative’, Bremerton. Langhorne Creek, South Australia
Bin: 345
Alcohol percentage: 14.5%
Vegan
Langhorne Creek (40 miles east of Adelaide in South Australia), is one of Australia’s oldest viticultural regions, first planted in 1850. It is known for producing rich, intense red wines. A relatively long growing season helps the wines retain balance.
Established in 1985 by Craig and Mignonne Willson and now run by their daughters Rebecca (winemaker) and Lucy (marketing and sales).
Their story of how they make this wine, only the second year they have done so:
“after fermenting the Shiraz in open top fermenters, the wine was pressed to oak barrel and aged on lees for 4 months. The natural concentration of anthocyanin helps preserve this fresh and vibrant wine. Selected barrels were carefully gravity racked to blend then sent to bottle young to capture the vibrancy.”
Rare to find a ‘natural wine’ (no Sulphur Dioxide) quite so clean, vibrant and juicy as this – or at such a sensible price point.
