Area:

La Mancha, in central Spain, is the largest wine producing area in the world. Vines, often very old and sparsely planted, sprawl over thousands of hectares of land on this high, hot, windy plateau. Verum are at Tomelloso, at an altitude of 650 meters.
From the Verum website:
“Albillo Real is a grape variety recovered from those that before the phylloxera could be found usually in Castilla-La Mancha and neighboring provinces to the north. A low yielding, short cycle and resistant to drought grape variety, which is one of the first to be harvested in the region. A small percentage of the wine is aged in French oak barrels of 600 liters and the rest, as our ancestors did, in earthenware jars (clay) of 300 arrobas (about 5000 litres).”

Producer:

The López-Montero have been making wine since 1788. In 1963 Juan Antonio López Ramírez and María Victoria Montero established Altosa, a large winery and distillery.
In 2005 they created Bodegas y Viñedos Verum. to produce the genuinely interesting and special wines from the best vineyards on their property.

Old Bridge rating:

Really interesting, delicate (almost fragile) white with subtle intensity and length.

Press review:

“A touch of positive oxidation, hints of caramel and fennel. With great creaminess and a very marked sensation of lees. It is a voluminous and broad wine, with a sweet power on the palate. A mellow and creamy wine.” Feran Centeilles on JancisRobinson.Com
