2019 PGR, Yealands Estate. Awatere, Marlborough, New Zealand
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Yealands are the biggest estate in the Awatere Valley, the cooler, more recently planted sub-region of Marlborough. Wines from here tend to be leaner, fresher, less 'obvious'.
Grape Variety: Pinot Gris 55%, Riesling 30%, Gewürztraminer 15%; fermented cool and bottled early.
Producer: Maverick Peter Yealands set up NZ's first carbon-neutral winery with all good intentions but after he had sold out the company went through a minor scandal (financial mis-management). They have emerged on the other side and are now making some interesting, diverse and challenging wines.
Old Bridge Rating: Really good blend of varieties. Aperitif style, but also excellent with spicy dishes.
