2019 "LE CHAPEAU QUI RIT" ROSÉ. Pays d'Hérault, South of France
Alcohol Percentage: 12%
Area: The Hérault is the deep south of France. As a 'Vin de Pays' it covers a large section of the Languedoc, around and east of Montpelier. Obviously there is plenty of ordinary plonk produced (the Languedoc in total still makes more wine than the whole of Australia) but the potential for quality is very much there.
Grape Variety: Cinsaullt and Grenache - two key Rhône grapes and the main drivers behind most Provence Rosé, on which style this pale, lightly pink wine is obviously modelled.
Producer: 'Le Chapeau Qui Rit' is the invention of UK importers 'FMV' who source fine wine from top Domaines but also several sensibly-priced (and well-packaged) options like this.
Old Bridge Rating: Crisp, light, dry – amazing value.
