GRAPPA DI BAROLO, Sperss, Gaja. Piedmont

Sperss is a renowned single vineyard in the village of Serralunga in Barolo. This is made from the classic Barolo grape, Nebbiolo, with a dash (around 5%) of Barbera. As with all grappa, it’s a distillate of the pomace left behind after making wine, but in this case the process is handled as gently as possible, to accentuate flavour over inensity. It’s then softened further by maturion in French oak barrels.

From one of the world’s most iconic wineries, this is one of the best Grappas we’ve ever tried. Incredibly powerful, yes (it’s still Grappa!), but ultimately very smooth and drinkable…
