2015 LES ALLÉES DE CANTEMERLE. Haut Médoc, Bordeaux (Magnum)

‘Second’ wine of the esteemed Cantemerle, made predominantly from the young vines on the estate. Cantemerle has 87 hectares of classic Haut-Médoc vineyard, with silica and gravel soils, around the villages of Macau and Ludon; Château La Lagune is close by.

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot.

Since 1981 the château has been owned by SMABTP (Les Mutuelles d’Assurance du Bâtiment et des Travaux Public), managed by Phillippe Dambrine and winemaker Pascal Berteau. Having been a little neglected in the past, investment is no longer a problem!

Approachable now, this will keep well to 2030.

“The 2015 Allées de Cantemerle has a very refined and delineated bouquet with blackberry, crushed stone and light mint aromas – quite Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little raw at the moment but it will mesh together. There is a fine spiciness/white pepper note on the finish. What an outstanding second wine.
