2018 RULLY, 1er Cru Montpalais, J-B Ponsot. Burgundy
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Size of bottle: 75cl
Area: Rully is a village in the Châlonnais area, just south of the main Côte d’Or, with the same limestone soils. It's neighbours are Mercurey and Bouzeron. It produces both reds and whites; the former can be a bit 'tough' except in good vintages. The whites are consistently excellent - and comparatively good value for white Burgundy - particularly from a number of independent estates.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay, fermented in oak for around 8 months (around 20% new oak).
Producer: Jean Baptiste took over his family domaine in 2000, aged just 20. He is without doubt one of the rising stars of the area.
Old Bridge Rating: Exceptional quality for a Châlonnais white. The sort of fine balance between richness and freshness that you might hope for in a good Cote D'Or white, perhaps a St Aubin or a 'village' Chassagne.
