2018 PRIMAVERA, Pierre-Jean Villa. Collines Rhodaniannes, Rhône

Bin:  1147

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

This comes from a vineyard in the Saint-Joseph appellation – the least well known in the northern Rhône. It is spread rather loosely over fifty kilometres of the river, so has little geographical or stylistic cohesion. The white wines are normally made of Roussanne and Marssanne – hence why this is not labelled as St Joseph Blanc.

Grape variety:

100% Viognier matured for a year in very large old oak barrels

Producer:

Pierre-Jean trained in Burgundy and then spent 10 years as the régisseur at “Les Vins de Vienne”, working with some of the most famous names in the area to restore some forgotten vineyards in the northern Rhone. In 2009 he created his own small estate.

Old Bridge rating:

Hedonistic, rich Viognier – very much in the style of the best wines of Condrieu, without being quite so intense.

BIN END – JUST A FEW BOTTLES LEFT.
