2013 Now finished: SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE, 1er Cru Aux Serpentières, Lebreuil

Bin:  444

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Savigny is one of those ‘little gem’ villages that used to be little-known and under-valued but have now been ‘discovered’. The best wines can easily rival those from the Beaune appellation, and are often priced to suit.
The style has always been generally medium-bodied and gentle, but plenty of examples (like this one) have the energy and intensity to age well.

Producer:

Pierre and Jean-Baptise Lebreuil are based in the village of Savigny. Although small in volume, the estate makes wines in 20 appellations, with tiny plots of vines also in Aloxe, Ladoix, Pernand, Volnay, Corton and Pommard.

Old Bridge rating:

A real success considering the 2013 vintage. Most wines from that year were unbearably tough on release – this has matured into lovely, spicy, savoury complexity.
