2015 Now finished: SANTENAY, 1er Cru Clos Rousseau, Les Fourneaux, Bachey-Legros. Burgundy

Bin:  442

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Santenay is below Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, an area of course much better known for its fine whites than its reds, but in fact over 80% of the vineyard is Pinot Noir.
Clos Rousseau, a south-facing vineyard to the west of the village, is one of the best Premier Crus in the appellation – indeed its traditional name is ‘Grand Clos Rousseau’.

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir, matured in oak barrel (30% new wood) for 12 months.

Producer:

Now run by the sixth generation of the Bachey family, this is an estate of just 18 hectares, with small plots within vineyards scattered around Santenay, Chassagne and Maranges.

Old Bridge rating:

The Bachey style is rich and full, and this is from the warm 2015 vintage. So, expect a flavoursome, intense Burgundy – a great match for game or other full-flavoured red meat dishes.
