2019 Now finished: SALICE SALENTINO, Zolla, Vigneti di Salento. Puglia

Bin:  556

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Puglia is the heel of Italy and Salice comes from near the end of the Salento peninsula. This wine comes from vineyards in Manduria and Sava.

Grape variety:

80% Negroamaro , 20% Malvasia Nera, matured for 8 months in (old) French oak barrels.

Producer:

The words of UK agent, Liberty Wines: “This is one of the Farnese group’s ventures in Puglia. The wines are made at two wineries in the province of Taranto, on the western flank of Salento, by resident winemaker Danilo Gizzi and consultant winemaker Filippo Baccalaro. Filippo, a native of Piemonte, has been working in Puglia for almost two decades. He was originally attracted by the rich, ripe flavours of the fruit from this region and the possibility of capturing these flavours with minimal use of technology, but a lot of know-how.”

Old Bridge rating:

Soft, round, very friendly style of southern Italian red. Hugely popular amongst our regulars.
