2016 VIGNOBLES D’ÉLIAN, Elian da Ros. Côtes du Marmandais, S. France

Bin:  649

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Organic

Area:

The Côtes du Marmadais bridges both sides of the River Garonne, south of Bordeaux and north of Buzet.

Grape variety:

50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Malbec, 10% Syrah

Producer:

Words of the UK Agent, Terra Wines:
“It was in 1998 that Elian Da Ros, a good friend of Nady Foucault, returned to the Côtes du Marmandais to take over the running of his father’s 5ha vineyard, having spent 5 years working at the iconic Domaine Zind-Humbrecht. Since then, Elian no longer delivers the grapes to the local coop and has ensured that Marmandais is properly on the quality wine map, due to his hard work and determination. Today, Elian is regarded as a pioneer for the region, raising the flag for wines of distinction.”

Old Bridge rating:

Funky, rather earthy nose and a savoury but seriously structured palate. A lot of wine for the price. Needs robust food, of course.
