2022 BEAUJOLAIS-VILLAGES, André Colonge. Beaujolais

Bin:  406

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

The domaine is based in Lancié, not designated a ‘Cru’ village, but neighbouring all the famous ones (Fleurie, Morgan etc)!

Grape variety:

Gamay fermented with whole bunches, in a style they call “semi-carbonic maceration”. Matured for 6-8 months in tank (stainless steel or cement).

Producer:

UK agent Thorman Hunt:
“André Colonge is a 30-hectare domaine run by two brothers, Landry and Samuel, and their father Serge. It was originally started by Andre’s grandfather. 7 of their hectares are in Fleurie and 18 are Beaujolais / Beaujolais Villages.
Their Beaujolais Villages is on granitic, sandy soils, similar to the terroir of Fleurie. The vines are around 40 years old.”

Old Bridge rating:

14.5% alcohol looks alarming, but you would never know. This is soft and rich, but still fresh and lively, as all Beaujolais should be!
