2012 GRUNER VELTLINER, Loibner Steinertal, FX Pichler. Wachau, Austria
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: The Wachau valley is Austria's best winemaking area. "Steinertal is one of the first vineyards encountered at the eastern end of the Wachau, almost into Kremstal. It’s tucked onto the coolest, eastern end of Loibenberg and lies below the peak of the 413m high mountain. The soils are deep primary rock, more usually reserved for riesling production, but Alzinger’s grüner veltliner is heart-stoppingly complex and intense." - Sally Easton MW on www.winewistom.com
Grape Variety: 100% Gruner Veltliner.
Producer: "FXP" is the most renowned estate in Austria, founded in 1898 and still owned and run by the Pichler family.
Cellar Potential: Will steadily improve over 10 years.
Press Reviews: "FX Pichler is the Chateau Latour, Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Zind-Humbrecht, Sandrone and Helen Turley of the Wachau" - Robert Parker
