2020 MONTAGNY, Premier Cru. Domaine JEAN-MARC BOILLOT

Montagny in the Côte Chalonnaise is unusual amongst the big four AOCs there in that it is only allowed to make white wines (from Chardonnay of course).

100% Chardonnay

Jean-Marc was one of Burgundy’s great patriarchs – with a permanent beaming smile – who made nearly 50 vintages at The Domaine before retiring. Today the wine making is overseen by his daughter Lydie and her husband François Alzingre.

This is a blend of sites from Premier Cru vineyards – grown on clay limestone soils – 100% fermented in French oak barrels (25% new) with 11 months ageing on lees.

2020 was a ripe, rich, vintage and is expressive and open now. However, this wine could still be cellared for another 5 years developing a nuttier edge to the fruit profile.
