2023 SAUVIGNON BLANC, Tinpot Hut. Marlborough, New Zealand

Bin:  102

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Vegan

Area:

New Zealand’s premier Sauvignon region, Marlborough in the north east corner of the South Island.

Grape variety:

100% Sauvignon Blanc.

Producer:

Named after an old ‘mustering hut’ for sheep farming. Winemaker Fiona Turner sources most of her grapes from the Awatere valley.

Maturity potential:

Drink as young as possible.

Old Bridge rating:

Tinpot Hut is quintessential Kiwi Sauvignon. Not a subtle style – it leaps out the glass (as they say) and has very ‘immediate’ character. When we last gave our customers a blind Sauvignon Blanc tasting we found, yet again, Tinpot at the top of the tree (with Cloudy Bay well down the pecking order).

Press review:

Matthew Jukes’s review of the 2019, for MoneyWeek magazine:
“It is fair to say that this brilliant winery has made some of the best value and most impressive Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc in the last few years. Never once tipping over into fruit salad notes and maintaining a healthy dose of cleansing minerality on the palate, this is a winery that understands this much-derided grape variety while respecting its Loire Valley origins. This is why Tinpot tastes so darn good – it is keen and nervy while making the most of the Marlborough sunshine to give it some gloss and allure. In short, this is a summer classic!”
