Burgundy; Côte de Beaune - MEURSAULT, Clos de la Barre, Lafon

2011 MEURSAULT, Clos de la Barre, Lafon. Burgundy

Bin: 708
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Area: Meursault is the northernmost of the renowned villages, coming before Chasagne and Puligny. Its reputation is for golden, nutty, rich whites. Nowadays producers are aiming for something more fine and delicate.
Grape Variety: 18 months in oak, but no new oak.
Producer: Dominique Lafon is one of the most celebrated winemakers in Burgundy - hence the high prices. His wines are rich and intense, in pretty classic Meursault style.
This is a totally enclosed 'monopoly' vineyard of 2 hectares. It faces due east on a slight slope, in shallow, clay soil on a subsoil of hard limestone. The wines it produces are rich, but with good acidity on the finish.
Old Bridge Rating: Nearing its peak, this is rounded, classically-styled Meursault.
