2009 VINTAGE PORT, Quinta de La Rosa

Bin:  972

Alcohol percentage:  19%

Area:

Warm summers and the steep, granitic slopes of the Douro valley make for low yields and some of the ripest, most intense red grapes in the world. Add alcohol half way through fermentation and you get the lusciously sweet but serious and long-lived style of wine we all know as Port.

Grape variety:

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz; all foot-trodden and then aged for 2 years in large cask

Producer:

Quinta de la Rosa is run by the father and daughter team of Tim and Sophia Berqvist. The estate was given as a christening present to Sophia’s grandmother in 1906! They make Port in the classic style – with all styles being foot-trodden in open vats (lagares).

Maturity potential:

Now – 2039.

Old Bridge rating:

Not expensive for serious Vintage Port – just approaching maturity.
