2019 ATA RANGI PINOT NOIR. Martinborough, New Zealand (Half Bottle)

Bin:  840

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Vegan

Area:

Martinborough is at the southern tip of New Zealand’s North Island. A cool area, ideal for Pinot, first made famous by Larry McKenna when at Martinborough Vineyards, and Clive Paton at Ata Rangi. The other key to the area is the high gravel content in the soil.

Grape variety:

100% Pinot Noir. 35% fermented as whole bunches. Matured in French oak (a third new) for 11 months.

Producer:

Clive Paton is the softly-spoken owner of Ata Rangi, pioneer of great New Zealand (not just Martinborough) Pinot Noir. He hosted an impressive Old Bridge wine dinner 3 years ago. Winemaker is the impressive and irrepressible Helen Masters.
The wine is not certified but their vineyard practises are in fact 100% organic. They are officially certified as sustainable.

Maturity potential:

2022-2028

Old Bridge rating:

Ata Rangi’s style is always pure and bright, with both delicacy and power, ageing beautifully too. One of the New World’s very best examples.
