2019 GOATS DO ROAM WHITE. Coastal Region, South Africa
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5 %
Area: Grapes mainly from Fairview Farm, on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, with the Grenache Blanc from Darling, on the cool west coast.
Grape Variety: 38% Viognier, 39% Roussanne, 13% Grenache Blanc, 10% Marsanne. Fermented in stainless steel.
Producer: Goats do Roam is the brainchild of Charles Back of Fairview. Yes it's a silly pun on a certain French appellation, but Charles does have a huge goat farm too, so there is method in the madness. The Goats wines are as cheerful, direct and charming as the concept and the labels.
Cellar Potential: Drink young.
Old Bridge Rating: A wine to drink, not to pontificate about. All 3 of these grape varieties can get heavy and ponderous in warm climates, but this is a fresh, lively white with just a hint of heady peach and apricot aromatics.
