2017 SANCERRE ROSÉ, Domaine des Clairneaux. Loire
Alcohol Percentage: 12.5%
Area: Sancerre on the Loire Valley is pretty far north for ripening of any red grape. Consequently the typical style is understated and delicate, even by Pinot Noir standards - and even the rosés are extreme in their lightness. The domaine is based in the village of Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerre.
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir, given a light maceration on the skins, bottled young to retain freshness.
Producer: Domaine des Clairneaux is owned by the Berthier family. Started by Jean-Marie in 1983 it is now run by his sons Clément and Florian.
Food Match: Great lunchtime rosé with any light food; served chilled on a hot day.
Old Bridge Rating: Pink Sancerre treads the line between fine delicacy and skinny austerity. This has the fruit and charm to be very much in the former camp!
